HUB
Hub is a device used to connect multiple devices having Ethernet connection and used to act as a one and complete network segment.Hubs are similar as switches , but hubs are not as functional as switches are. Hubs are commonly used as broadcast network , eg. there is one sender device and all other connected nodes(devices) receives data weather it is for then or for any other device. Hubs are now outdated , switches are much better than hubs.
There are three types of hub :-
- Active Hub
- Passive Hub
- Intelligent Hub
Active Hub
Active hubs works same as passive hub , but active hubs have more functionalists such as recognizing signal and recognizing errors in signal. These are expensive than passive hubs and cheaper than Intelligent hub.Passive Hub
Passive hubs are use to connect multipal devices but it does not provide any additional features as Active hub. Passive hubs are only center connecting device used to connect 2 or more devices.Intelligent Hub
Intelligent hubs are much smarter than all other hubs , It doesn't broadcast the signal , signals are sent to only device it is addressed to. Intelligent hubs rectifying errors in signal and if there is any error in sent data , it is sent back to sender or some times hub itself corrects error and passes to the receiver.
